Hotel Elephant launches a free Art & Design Saturday Club for local 13–16-year-olds
As part of the National Saturday Club network, local young people can now apply to join the Art & Design Saturday Club at Hotel Elephant. The programme starts in early November 2025 and will offer a unique opportunity to explore creativity, build skills and discover potential career paths in the textiles and creative industries.
About the club:
Do you want to enrich your design and making skills in the world of sustainable textiles? Join us for a 15-week program taking place in two parts in the Autumn and Spring terms, where you will be taught by educational tutors from industry to enhance your creativity, confidence and skills in Textiles.
Saturday Club Workshops Assistant
Hours: 4 hours on Saturdays for the project period. 60 hours in total
Project period (Saturdays during term time):
Part 1: 8th November - 13th December
Part 2: Early February - March/April 2025
Pay: £20 per hour

Requirements:
Hotel Elephant is looking to recruit an assistant to support our lead practitioner in successfully delivering our new Art & Design Saturday club. The Saturday Club is a free, three-hour workshop where young people aged 13-16 years old can come and learn new creative skills outside of school. This year's Saturday club is focused on Textiles and Garment production.

The ideal applicant would have appropriate skills to help the young people develop their work using techniques such as print making, appliqué, embroidery, upcycling fabric/garments and plastic manipulation. Experience using equipment such as sewing machines would be ideal. Previous experience as a teacher's assistant or assisting similar creative classes/workshops for teenagers would be beneficial; however, most importantly, the candidate must be confident and comfortable working with teenagers.
The role would suit a student or recent graduate with an art, design, fashion, costume or textiles background.
Examples of responsibilities include;
Assisting the workshop leader in setting up the space and cleaning up afterwards
Assisting the young people in learning new creative techniques and developing their work
Accompanying the group on external trips in London. These include: the visit, the masterclass and the summer show.
