Scarlett Crawford

Crawford is an Artist and Educator with a successful record of working in London’s inner city communities and across the UK for over 10 years.

Having completed her Masters's in Global Cultural and Creative Industries at the School of Oriental and African Studies, she is passionate about working towards equality in the creative industries and beyond. Her photographic, painted, drawn and audio work examines the semiotics of race and class by creating work that portrays narratives of the underrepresented whilst interrogating power structures.

To mark the introduction of the Race Relations Acts in 1965, 1968 and 1976, the Parliaments Speakers Advisory Committee on Works of Art commissioned artist Scarlett Crawford to undertake a residency to create work with communities across the UK that were impacted by the introduction of the early race discrimination legislation. This culminated in an exhibition at Westminster Palace in early 2019.

In her role as educator, she worked with PRU's, the long-term unemployed, male and female young offenders and girls affected by gender violence. She has also facilitated for organisations such as the Dulwich Picture Gallery and AfroPunk and given talks for the London Arts Fair, the National Photography Symposium and BBC Radio 4.
