About JKS Blues Trio
The JkS Blues Trio is a trimmed down version of The JkS Blues Band so it can perform in venues that are not suited to a full band with drums. Last month the trio consisted of Jon Kim Self (vocals and blues harmonica), Matt Wallhead (guitar) and Martin Heath (bass). This month Martin is standing aside and Mariel (drums) will be playing the Cajon, a Peruvian percussion instrument, as well as hitting and shaking various other items.
The Trio will be performing two 45minute sets kicking off around 7.30, taking a break in between. The material is mostly drawn from the urban blues scene of Northern America with tunes from the likes Little Walter and Junior Wells amongst others. There are some original tunes from Jon thrown into the mix, hopefully within the genre but adding a more contemporary flavour and bridging the Atlantic, ideally making a connection without getting wet feet.
The trio likes to keep it up tempo, head nodding and foot tapping but at the same keeping it cool and despite the instrumentation being amplified harmonica and electric guitar, play at a volume that shouldn’t impede upon your putting the world to rights or better still just come and enjoy the music.
