Spare Street is home to our co-working and office spaces alongside 24 studio spaces and our cafe @sidecar_coffee_bar. Located in five refurbished railway arches Spare Street opened in July 2016 and was named after a local Edwardian portrait artist, Austin Osman Spare. Since then we have been home to lots of talented creatives and have hosted many exhibitions, events and film screenings in our public space & cafe serving the best coffee in town. We frequently host events and exhibitions at Spare street so keep an eye out for our next event.

Facts about Spare Street

Named after Austin Osman Spare

We named Spare Street after Austin Osman Spare, who was an Edwardian portrait artist who lived and exhibited locally until his death in 1956. His work was influenced by symbolism and art nouveau, his work is known for its strong composition and line. His subject matter often includes portraiture and allegorical landscapes that allude to classical mythology.

Spare Street was the 1st part of the Low Line to open in Southwark.

A walking destination for London along the length of the Victorian rail viaducts spanning Bankside, London Bridge and Bermondsey. It connects diverse neighbourhoods and communities in south London, linking existing and new hubs of creativity, entertainment, and industry along its course. The Low Line celebrates the heritage of the railway arches which have been a part of the area for over 150 years, shaping places of interest along the way and unlocking their potential.

Spare Streets coworking space was featured in “Around The World in 250 Coworking Spaces”

A book with carefully curated stories of people, spaces and products that are actively transforming the workspaces of today. It offers a comprehensive understanding of the diverse co-working world. A guide of how people build new work environments through collaboration, interior design and community activities. We were delighted to have our co-working space featured in co-workies book alongside some of the top co-working spaces around the world.
