Creative Christmas Market: Meet the Makers part 1

As we count down to our Creative Christmas Market (30th Nov. 1st & 2nd Dec) we will be inviting you to meet the artists and makers taking part in our 2018 market - welcome to part one!

David Horgan

David is a Peckham based artist and illustrator interested in pattern, line, stories and animals. He developed his love of drawing whilst trainingas an architect in Manchester. After seven years training David worked as an architect building schools for several years. Now working within architectural sales David spends the rest of his time playing guitar and drawing using pen and ink. His favourite medium is the humble Biro.

David loves drawing animals and has a special affinity for those animals who are either maligned, endangered or hunted; from his ‘Punk Fox’ to his Stag series, to his anthropomorphic Rhino.

David is currently developing his "Books I've Never Read" series, which takes classic, acclaimed book titles, ranging from the cult to the popular- those books which he feels he ‘really should have read’-and attempts to interpret their themes and narratives based on reading only the back-cover blurb. With this project David aims to engage those who have read the titles and may recognise familiar imagery relating to their consciousness and memory of the novel and it’s themes, as well as too inspire those who have not read the books to do so, perhaps others will wonder ‘what the hell was was he thinking’! The next stage of David’s project after drawing the books ‘blind’ is to actually read them.

Dragon Designs

Dragon designs makes hand screen printed, bespoke textiles for home decor and a range of super soft organic T-shirts.

Designer Julia Andrews takes inspiration from nature, city life and the memories of her grandparents’ house which was filled with archaeological artefacts, antique textiles and collaged screens. Dragon Designs supports sustainability in textiles, where possible, and 'up loving’ cast off clothes and furniture and is currently based in a studio at Print Club London, in Dalston. These comfy cushions will look great in any living room, a beautiful gift for someone you care about this Christmas - or maybe just treat your self :-)

Jesus and the Dinosaur

Sam Dawood is a multimedia artist with a background in performance design and technical arts. She works as a freelance artist specialising in fabrication and figurative sculpture, whilst also working within the film industry as a prop maker. Her shop 'Jesus And The Dinosaur' sells mostly glittery butts and boobs ('Boobles' at Christmas) with her work exploring gender diversity, desexualisation of the nude and reactions to nudity.

Get your hands on ;-) a ‘Booble’ for your Christmas Tree this year ! Along with a glitter butt or two which make great presents sure to make anyone smile.

Origine Ethique

Run by Bermondsey based illustrator / designer Chloe Tartinville (on the right), she launched her brand of t-shirts Origine Ethique two years ago. All of the garments are made from 100% recycled materials and feature her own screen-printed illustrations, which aim to promote ecology, equality and literacy.

She also gives 6% of her profits to small, hand-picked charities. Just another great reason to buy direct from a maker - not only will you be supporting a small business but charitable causes too!
